Making a Business Card Holder
With our squared design business card, the standard card holders in the market just did not make the cut. This however presents as a new opportunity to make one instead! Makers shall make.
While browsing on Google Images for design ideas, one particular design caught my attention – “Unique Wood and Metal Business Card Holder” by Andrew’s Reclaimed, from the U.S.A.
There is this other design which was also by Andrew, but is no longer for sale (the image still appears in Google Images).
I tend to like this one more. Without the bolts, it looks refined and sleek. The combination of wood and metal is also rather unique. Although I was tempted to tweak the design more and make it my own design, I went ahead with the original design in the end. As they say, “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”.
Reflection
There are also some improvements I would make. First is to use thinner metal, as the thickness feels like it took away the sleekness and ended up adding to the beefy ruggedness which I was trying to avoid. Second will be to stain the wood to a darker colour followed by protective coating like wax, PU, or lacquer.
Update:
Managed to stain the wood to a darker colour (featured image). Big difference ain’t it? Glad we did so.
